Installing the waterpumps is carefully done, together with the local people. An M.O.U. (Memorandum Of Understanding) is drafted, a sort of contract between the property owner, the village elders and the coordinator of the Joanne Foundation. In this contract the owner states that the property is freely given to the community for an indefinite period, to be used for installing a waterpump. The owner also states that he/she will not benifit financially from the pump. After stamping and signing the contract the ground is levelled, the borehole is dug and the pump is installed. All the work is done by the locals supervised by a waterpump specialist. The specialist also instructs the community how to use and maintain the waterpump. Eleven waterpumps have already been installed in Ndegeya.
